since dooce did

I think I may add a new catagory called, "because so and so did".  I read a ton of blogs and find myself answering questions or commenting in my head with my own self absorbed story, this could be a great way at preventing myself from being one of those, "well let me tell you what happen to me" people that stand around clogging up the comment sections.

Anyway here is what she posted, that got me thinking.  We named our beautiful son Ewan and people call him E-won all the time but that is not the problem.  The problem is when I turn to his brother and say "when you and Ewan get older we can go blah blah blah", do you see the annoyance factor.  Totally did not see it coming.

thought

The winter is well on its way here in the south and I am in deep thought land.

thought for today.

To obtain one's desires you must first achnowledge them, then let them go and only then will they be yours to have and hold.

fruit fly

I bought this the other day and to say that I am in love, inappropriately I might add, with it, is to say an understatement.

We have been living like 3rd worlders doing the bowl on the counter with the deluxe bug avoidance system of throwing a dish rag over top.  This was fine as long as we enjoyed our new flying pet Phinius the fruit fly and his extended family from the lineage of Chiquita that came to visit via a banana peel.  Well I finally decided I no longer liked sharing my Farm house Ale with my entire house full of guests and started the fruit fly holocaust of ‘09.  The fly swatter was used profusely and without trepidation, then it broke and I got pissed, duct tape was used to mend it and the war went on, then I got wise.

The purchase of a proper bin was made; the trap of beer was set.  They took it and drowned in my sacrificed brew, I now live in a fruit fly free zone! Thank you ceramic compost thingy and good brew, you saved my sanity.

To add I tried to drown them in Bud Light and they threw there wee noses up at my cheep offering.  The dish of BL sat on the counter for 2 days as they laughed and mocked me; it took a strong good beer to finally take them down.  Who knew fruit flies were such picky zymurgist.

Big Bro Quilt

Finally finished The quilt for big brother! I had intended to finish it for him as a "we still love you even though we brought home another kid" gift but it took a bit longer than I expected.  Yes this is the little one on the quilt for the other one but we just won't tell him.

I used linen in between the pieced parts, there was worry about how it would quilt but it came out great.  The straight lines were pretty easy to quilt but admittedly it was hard to handle all the fabric so I used cloths pins to hold it together, first rolling it like a jelly roll and then clamping it together.

Fabric came from all over, linen at Jo-Ann's, and prints from In-town Quilters.  He picked out most of the patterns I added a few to round it off and omitted the skulls print, but only because purple did not fit it with the scheme.
